I just encountered this with a client after migrating them off SBS to Office They started reporting that some recipients were unable to open. It was very hit or miss and I couldn't reproduce the issue sending test messages to any of the different email accounts available to me including another Office account, gmail, and a basic POP3 service - all could receive the attachments just fine.

Finally, one of the employees reported she couldn't open an attachment from an email she had sent to her personal yahoo account. When we tested from OWA, there was no issue opening the. Now, it got stranger. I setup a test yahoo account and added it to my phone so I didn't have to keep bugging this poor lady and her personal phone. However, I could open the. How strange is that? One yahoo account can't open the attachment and the other one can? I conducted the same tests with Outlook and Outlook , and the results were the same.

Finally decided to try the suggestion in this post to delete the remembered name and type it out from scratch - that WORKED! Started last year and has got progressively worse i. It does appear on balance that the majority of issues are folk using handsets, iphones, samsung galaxies etc A major ball-ache. Details required : characters remaining Cancel Submit.

Search the community and support articles Outlook Outlook. Per L Bylund. The problem is this: I send e-mails using Outlook with common pdf attachments and they show up only as a winmail. Now, this is not the previously known problem of sending in RTF format from Outlook. How do I know this? Because I use HTML settings on all outgoing e-mails double-checked my settings , have tried sending as plain text same problem!

I have done a fair amount of troubleshooting and have been able to recreate the problem. As long as I use only Outlook there is no problem - it seems Outlook has no problem understanding or, perhaps, fixing on the fly the attachments. The problem seems to be with Linux-based recipient servers, especially the ones using the cPanel system.

When sending to several of my accounts there is not ever a problem if the recipient is on an Exchange server or is a gmail account.

But if the recipient uses a Linux-based system and has a cheap client non-Outlook , there is a problem. I tried sending a simple pdf attachment to myself and received the e-mails using the Windows 8 Mail app. It worked for my Exchange and gmail accounts, but not for the Linux-based one. I recreated the problem and received not the pdf file but a winmail. It was not a problem the other way around when I sent from the Mail app to receive in Outlook. So it is a problem seems to arise only when sending from Outlook and accessing the e-mail on a Linux server same issue whether using the app or webmail system.

No, it isn't overruled. Under E-mail Properties following the instructions under the link you provided the Internet format says "Let Outlook decide the best sending format". However, when sending the message to my address typing it rather than using the AutoSuggest version it seems to work! So I guess it is overridden somewhere or somehow even though the settings don't show this? Haven't tried turning off its Outlook integration if there is one ; I cannot figure out how to.

Anybody got any ideas for how to fix this? Quite obviously, it makes Outlook useless. In reply to Per L Bylund's post on July 20, I find it odd that just because don't know how to do something the program is useless. Just clear the cached email address Open a new mail start typing the persons name in the To: field Highlight the name and hit delete on the keyboard.

Hi Roady. I have just upgraded to windows 8. It seems all contacts that have come across from my previous Outlook now have default sending format changed from Let Outlook Decide to send using RTF. Consequently non Outlook users cannot receive attachments. I don't want to manually change more than contacts.

How can Microsoft fix what is obviously a problem of their making? In reply to Ilumalite's post on March 23, Microsoft, will you fix this already? In reply to SchylerJones's post on March 4, I also have this issue. Is there really no auto fix for this on Outlook ?

Sagun Raj Lage. Dear Per, Maybe this post can be useful for you. In reply to Cyclops's post on December 8, Clearing the cache has no impact, at least not with Outlook Problem solved and i suggested the same to all the other, solving them too. This site in other languages x.
